When COVID landed on us like a ton of bricks and my email was pinging away with race cancellations, the first virtual race I completed was the Louisville Hot Chocolate 15k. While I ended up running the 5k instead of the registered 15k, it was the start of many virtual races of 2020.

Hot Chocolate 5k
This time I am going to run the Indianapolis edition of the HC15k. Indy is a special city, as it is about an hour from my hometown, and also happens to be where I ran a marathon last year. I also have to mention it is the stomping grounds of the hub’s favorite home improvement show, Good Bones. We had a great time touring around downtown, and outside of that crazy Indy chill, the marathon was a lot of fun.
The virtual race will run 10/10/2020, just in time for hot chocolate season! The best part about running a virtual run? Your course, your time, clean bathrooms!! Plus they have the best swag!! This race also has legacy status, which is something I am down for, bonus…legacies carry on even for virtual races! How great are these race directors??

So I have registered for the 5k this time around because my foot is still healing from my little trail half injury. Since this is a virtual race, my goal, to keep things interesting, is to see what sort of 5k PR I can get. Since I get to chose my own route, I am going to use it once a week to test times, then try to beat that time during my virtual race. While it doesn’t completely replace the after-party and tasty treats, it adds a level of fun to virtual racing. But you can be sure I will have a mug of hot chocolate and some post-race goodies waiting for me when I get home.
